OECD/IEA workshop on steel decarb: The OECD Steel Committee in cooperation with the IEA will organise a virtual workshop on Steel Decarbonisation on Monday, 27 February, 12:00 – 15:00 CET.
The main topic of discussion will focus on the draft findings of a project on steel decarbonisation that is taking place in the context of the Japanese G7 Presidency and supporting the Industry Decarbonisation Agenda (IDA). The workshop will focus on emission measurement standards and relevant data collection frameworks as a basis to inform policy and definitions for near zero emission steel, and how the heterogeneity of steel industry structures and decarbonisation pathways across countries could be reflected therein.During the workshop, participants will be invited to discuss and comment on the draft findings of two reports:
An OECD report on the heterogeneity of steel industry structures and decarbonisation pathways and its relevance for definitions of low-carbon emission steel, measurement standards and data collection frameworks.
An IEA report on existing emission measurement standards and data collection frameworks to inform policy and definitions for near zero emission steel and providing a roadmap for tracking and benchmarking decarbonisation efforts in the global iron and steel sector.
The agenda for the workshop will be sent to participants during the week of 13 February, including further information on the two draft reports.Participants are also invited to share their comments on the report in writing before 3 March 2023 CoB.
